Almost since I first started my main blog, Fat Shopaholic, I have wondered why fat folks don't have more of a community outside of the internet. A lot of us have formed meaningful relationships with fellow interweb junkies born out of our frustration with having no one to relate to after we log out of our virtual world and log into reality. Sitting at the computer being inspired by fat girls in nice outfits and joining in discussions on various aspects of the fat experience is nice, but realistically can't be done all day. Brick and Motar shopping for the on trend fat girl is bleak and it's no fun going to events where no gets who you are or is catering to your needs. So, how do we bring our community from behind the computer screen? A few people have answered this question. Gabi held the YFF Conference in 2010, Lauren along with a few other bloggers held Plus London earlier this year, and Rachel Adams, Jaimielee Velasquez, and Jessica Jarchow and a few other organizers held The Gold and the Beautiful clothing Swap this past February. Also, I've held a few thrift store shopping days with Rachel Adams, but I wanted to go all out and plan something super fun in the spirit of the events mentioned above.
Boom in the Trunk is part blogger/reader meet up(with 5 featured bloggers), part dance party(with Dj's and Performers), and part fashion show(with a photo presentation of looks styled by me). This event will take place at Beauty Bar Chicago on Thursday, October 27, 2011 from 7 - 9:30 p.m. so mark your calendars and plan to be there. Yes, it's 21 or over. They'll be constant updates on the details of the event on this space. Follow this blog or Fat Shopaholic (in any way) to be updated on post as they come.
Before I go I just wanted to thank a couple peeps.
Rachel Adams for giving advice and helping with the planning.
Gina for helping get the Venue.
Lauren for her support.
Franceta for doing the blog layout.
Natile for giving us a drawing to use in the header.
